Fishing Reports for California's Northern Sierra waterways around Lake Tahoe

May 14th, 2008 Fishing Report

  • DONNER LAKE
    • First off I have to say to my clients on Saturday I am so sorry for the no fish day we had. Anytime you want we'll fish again. This last Monday we fished for the big boys an we got one of the bigggg boys. At about 5:30 we hooked a 27 pound Mack on one of my new Pro A.C.Plugs in rainbow trout color. We took some pictures and away she went. The Kokanee are in a lot of spots on the lake . The west end has some and over by Lock Leven Lodge there are some as well. The handicap fishing area had some too. Most where being caught at 20 to 40 feet.
      • Last report there was some mix up on the big fish I caught. I got 3 big Mackinaws already this year and 2 were right at the same size 14.9 pounds. so it sounds like the same fish but its not. I am sorry for the mix up. One paper said that the fish was 20 pounds. One was on an A.C. Plug and one was on my spinner.
      • Please let the Big Macks GO (fish over 10 pounds). If we don't your KIDS wont have the chance that you have to catch one of these big fish that have been in the lake for 40 years.
  • STAMPEDE
    • The bite is on! The Kokanee are biting real good all over the lake. Fish from the top early to 40 feet later. Orange was a good color to use. The Mack bite was also good. We got some nice Mackinaw one weighed in at 11.9 pounds. We ran 2 Mack rods and two for Kokanee. We fished all over the lake and caught fish all over. No browns though???
  • SHASTA LAKE
    • The fish are in the same areas: Brown bite is in the McCloud Arm; Kings are everywhere but the best is in the Dry Creek area. They might be up or down some. The bait should just be everywhere by now. If the fish are on a bait bite try the shore line.
  • WHISKEYTOWN LAKE
    • The Kokanee are biting. Try the buoy line in the Oak bottom area at 35 feet. Orange or pink will work well.
  • LAKE TAHOE
    • The best fishing is still in deeper water. Try trolling out in the Traven Hole area for Macks. Run green apex #5 with trophy trout scent on it. (Pro Cure). Sliver and blue are good colors also. Fish at about 140 feet. I know this report looks the same most of the time , but that is because the fish are here all the time.
      • REMEMBER 500 FEET FROM ANY INLET OR YOU WILL GET A TICKET.
  • EAGLE LAKE
    • We will be fishing up there soon.
      • Beginning in September, the big Rainbow Trout start moving to the north end of Eagle Lake and that is when we start fishing for these monsters.

Keep it Tight,
